Decorex 2010

Decorex is the leading south African decor, home and lifestyle event which takes place in different venues around the country. We were commissioned by the event organizer to create four spots each highlight the various events held in different cities around South Africa which had to be conceptualized and executed in a way which would allow for the quick turn around time required. Decorex had just launched a new corporate identity which worked wonderfully with the concept we came up with. We decided to center the animation around the Decorex logo which unfolds into a floor plan representing the exhibition centers and then construct a scene showing that event’s highlight.

It was a very enjoyable project to work on as we had a lot of creative freedom and the client was a real pleasure to work with.

CORE Relocates!

Yes we have finally moved! It’s taken us time but we have finally done it.
The relocation is the direct response to the company’s consistent growth so we hope to carry on in that line and hopefully work on some great projects in the near future..

Let’s Chat with Mel

M-net commissioned CORE – DESIGN ESSENCE to create the look of the set, brand and show package for this new and funky woman’s’ show. The main challenge of the project was to differentiate the show from the usual woman talk shows as Let’s Chat with Mel aims at tackling topics which other woman shows would not dare while remaining in good taste.

The show is feminine, voluptuous, funky and upbeat thus it required a brand and show packaging that was representative of these themes.

Both the client and production company are extremely ecstatic with the final result and we hope that this is the start to a long and gratifying relationship with one of South Africa’s largest broadcasters.

First Rand - Maize world

In collaboration with Koded and Hush Media CORE – DESIGN ESSENCE created this 6 minute conceptual animation to illustrate the inner workings and philosophies of First Rand Bank as an ever changing and evolving entity with control over certain elements but not all.

Due to the short time line for the length of the animation as well as the difficult concept CORE fully story-boarded the animation to get final sign off on the animation and look development. The client really liked the story boards so much that they decided to utilize them as illustrations in a hand out during a presentation.

Over all the project was not technically very challenging, but the sheer amount of characters and animation did not leave much space for error as the sketch and toon look required some heavy duty time on our render farm.

PinPop Fire

CORE DESIGN ESSENCE created this short 15″ to launch the new PinPop Fire variant and had an absolute blast creating it. We were involved right from the inception of the concept and helped push the storyboards as the director did not want a fully photo-real environment as it should be more fantastical and magical due to the young target market. The DJ and decks are the only items we actually shot and created everything else in CG. We utilized a fluid plugin still in the beta stage called T4D for Cinema 4D, to create all the fire and smoke elements required, and had a lot of fun simulating all sorts of tests. All the fire and smoke elements were computer generated as the director had in mind a certain way that they should be created.

Samsung - Robots LED TV

CORE DESIGN ESSENCE collaborated with Fire Fly Animation Studios on this spot for Samsung via Cheil Worldwide. CORE stepped right in from the production phase by providing on set supervision and assistance. The on set duties included the gathering of camera data for the matchmoving, adding tracking markers, shooting HDRI images for reflections and lighting as well as general supervision making sure that the shots taken would work in post.

Once the post production started we aided by creating the animation of the rainbow texture on the LED screens, all the holograms elements and animation there of as well as some animation directing and compositing. All in all it was some late nights but we worked with a really great group of guys and it was well worth it.
